Taking your car in for its regular service can be stressful, especially if you don't speak the language. There are a lot of parts to the vehicle and it's hard to keep track of the things that need maintenance - and why they need maintenance. But don't stress; your team at Rudig Jensen has put together a few key terms to help you during your next service trip to the dealership.
Air filter
This filter cleans the air coming into your car through your air conditioning, heating, and ventilation units. These need to be replaced regularly.Oil change
The oil in your vehicle lubricates the moving parts to make sure they can rub against each other easily. When this runs low, those parts are likely to overheat. Your oil should be changed regularly; check your owner's manual for exact time frames.Tire rotation
Depending on whether you have front- or rear-wheel drive, two of your tires may do more work than the rest, which means they wear down faster. Rather than replacing them all, rotating them allows for an even distribution of wear on the tires.Wheel alignment
Proper wheel alignment means that all of your wheels are facing the same direction, parallel to one another. This should be checked when you rotate your tires to prevent your car from pulling in one direction while you drive.Brake pads
Brake pads go between the two pieces of the brake that help the vehicles stop. They wear down with use, so it's important to replace them regularly to avoid too much friction between the other parts.Coolant
Engine coolant is a liquid that helps prevent your engine and radiator from overheating. This should be checked during maintenance and changed if the levels are too low.Don't forget, if you are ever concerned or unsure about your vehicle's maintenance needs, call or stop by Rudig Jensen! We're always happy to assist you.
