The History of Ford

As one of America's most trusted brands, Ford has been offering quality vehicles for over 100 years. Though many people are familiar with the brand's founder Henry Ford, there are several details about the company's history that are less well-known. Currently the largest family-controlled company in the world, Ford has certainly made its mark in the history books.

Early Years

The first Ford vehicle was built in 1896. Henry Ford's quadricycle was a small car built with a sparse frame, bicycle wheels, and an ethanol-powered engine. It wasn't until 1899 that Ford got into the manufacturing business with the Detroit Automobile Company. Though it quickly failed, the company was reorganized into what would eventually become the Ford Motor Company we know today. Perhaps Henry Ford's greatest achievement was the assembly line system he used to mass produce early cars, making cars affordable for the middle class. In other words, without Ford, the auto industry may never have developed into the massive market it is in current times.

Middle Years

Ford received a boon when creating cars for both WWI and WWII, and by the post-war years, it started to create iconic cars like the Thunderbird in 1955. By 1960, customers saw the famous Ford Falcon, and in 1964 the Mustang hit the market. Creating an entirely new class of cars, the Mustang offered power and a thrilling driving experience like never before. The Ford SUV-class was created in 1966 with the Ford Bronco, and by the 1970s the Ford F-150 became America's favorite vehicle - a title it holds to this day.

Present Day

Ford continues to innovate, creating new technologies and designs every day. The company's current focus is on electric cars, hybrid vehicles, and self-driving technologies - each of which improves either fuel economy or safety. The brand also continues its commitment to power and freedom, offering drivers a truly unique experience behind the wheel. To test drive a new or used Ford model, visit Rudig Jensen Ford CDJR today.
